Haley & The Fairies

Spread the love

An entrance to the fairy tree

The adult humans came and cut down trees around us. We were afraid they would cut down our home, but they did not. One adult came near, and we think she saw us. Fear set in but nothing happened, and we all lived in peace over the next few years.

As time passed, the humans built a door for our tree and the one who visited us frequently referred to the door as the fairy door. Now we were certain she knew we were here, but no threat was felt from her or the others.

On warm, bright, sunny days our children fluttered under the protective branches of our home. The humans placed a light outside the door they had built for us.  We hovered around it when darkness came, listening to our night friends waking up. Mr. Owl who hooted in the nearby trees. The field mice families scuttled around gathering treats for their children. And during the day, the humans fed the birds so there was plenty for all our night-time friends to enjoy. Our community was happy.

Emi was a very curious tiny fairy girl. She often slipped out when her parents were not looking and flew high in the trees enjoying the sunbeams while watching the humans moving about. Visitors came and went, not noticing her or her family. One day a smaller person walked near her tree and started singing. She flew closer to hear that sweet voice and when she did, the little person saw her!

Emmi

Fearful she quickly flew away but continued to watch from a distance, while the little girl called to her mother. She told her mother she saw a fairy but since adults cannot see them, her mother did not believe her.

When darkness fell, the fairy families turned on their light and listened to the human voices talking nearby. Emi listened too, waiting to hear that little girl’s voice again. Finally, everything grew quiet, and the night creatures came out to forage for food.

When morning came, the little girl was near her tree calling out to her. She knew now that she had been seen. The little girl said “don’t be afraid, I won’t hurt you” so she turned on the little light so the girl would know she had heard her. She slipped out from an upper area of the tree and flew above the little girl’s head.

Although she was not sure what was happening, she felt a longing to be near the little girl. She asked her parents if she could give her a gift. They consented and made the girl a little garden with a tiny fairy likeness to leave for the girl as a present. She whispered in her tiny fairy voice “whenever you need me, you can talk to this little garden and I’ll hear you.”

“When you come back again, I’ll be here.”

“Don’t grow up too fast Haley Kathleen.”

Haley grew up and moved away but she came back every year to talk with her fairies
